“Phnom Penh: The president of the World Bank arrived in Cambodia on Saturday in order to meet with government officials and to study the problems Cambodia is facing in its development of the country, and to study the possible role of the World Bank in helping Cambodia to solve these problems faced.

Mr. Robert B. Zoellick, 53, a former deputy secretary of state of the US Department of State, was elected president of the World Bank in July 2007, after Mr. Paul Wolfowitz, the former president of the World Bank, had resigned due to a nepotism scandal. Mr. Robert will spend the two days of 4 and 5 August in Cambodia.

“The World Bank office in Cambodia said that during the visit, Mr. Robert plans to meet with Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, Senior Minister Keat Chhon, the Minister of Economy and Finance, and with other senior officials, including members of the Supreme National Economic Council. In the meantime, he plans to discuss with the private sector, with civil society, and with the people who have benefited though World Bank development projects..

“This is the first visit of Mr. Robert Zoellick since he became the president of the World Bank on 1 July 2007.

“Senior Minister Keat Chhon, the Minister of Economy and Finance and many other leaders of this ministry had arranged a welcoming ceremony for the arrival of the president of the World Bank at Phnom Penh International Airport. Both of them – Robert Zoellick and Keat Chhon – met and talked for a short time in a VIP room and then continued the travel to the city in order for Robert Zoellick’s mission to start.
