“Phnom Penh: Prince Sisovath Thomico met with Princess Norodom Vacheara in Paris, France, in order to unite members of the royal family and royalists, and to seek a solution for Prince Ranariddh’s returning to Funcinpec.
“Prince Thomico, who returned to Cambodia on Saturday, told Rasmei Kampuchea by phone on 6 August that he had met with the Princess Vacheara on 5 July and discussed the unification of members of the royal family and of royalists. The Prince said this means that we would like to have Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh to participate again in Funcinpec. Princess Vacheara also agreed that only unification with Funcinpec can be the solution for a return of Samdech Krom Preah to Cambodia. ‘We have not seen any other way besides achieving this, involving Funcinpec.’
“According to Prince Thomico, Princess Vacheara would possibly help with the unification of members of the royal family and of royalists, and with seeking solutions to allowing Prince Ranariddh to return to Funcinpec. Princess Vacheara can help doing this through contacting prominent political figures and members of the royalist parties.
“But Mr. Muth Chantha, the spokesperson of Prince Norodom Ranariddh, said again and again that Samdech Krom Preah cannot return to Cambodia through the gate of Funcinpec. He has already shut the door for negotiations with Funcinpec. From now on, we will no longer talk about Funcinpec. This spokesperson put the blame on the shaky position of Funcinpec in their negotiations, which led Prince Ranariddh to quit negotiating.
“However, Nov Sovathero, secretary of state at the Ministry of Information and the spokesperson of Funcinpec, stated that Prince Ranariddh himself rejected to unify the royalists. He said that this was a result of an excessive self-esteem of Prince Ranariddh.
“Having stopped thinking about the possibility that Funcinpec would pave the way for Prince Ranariddh to return to Cambodia, the Norodom Ranariddh Party asked lawyers to urge the Appeals Court to take action on the case of Prince Ranariddh as soon as possible, as the time is short for him to build his popularity before the upcoming 2008 national election. Mr. Leav Sovanna, the lawyer of Prince Ranariddh, told Rasmei Kampuchea that there was no progress at the Appeals Court. He said that he was already urging to solve the case of the Prince quickly. Nevertheless, what is interesting is that there is no law requiring the Appeals Court to take action on the complaints as quickly as possible. This is quite different from the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, which has to hold a hearing within six months, and the Supreme Court, which holds hearings within no more than three months.” Rasmei Kampuchea, Vol.15, #4356, 7.8.2007

We apologize because we will not be able to present headlines today. This may, or may not, continue for about one more week, for reasons of very limited staffing possibilities. We can cover to select one article per day and have it translated during this time, but we cannot select about 15 headlines per day from all the different newspapers during this week.
