The Mirror, Vol. 11, No. 522
“Phnom Penh: The Cambodian Independent Teachers’ Association asked Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong to check a French company which produced phone cards with the picture of Angkor Wat, but with the inscription “Viêt-Nam” on the picture.
“The company’s name is Iradium, additional inscriptions say “Viêt-Nam” and “Meilleur Angkor” [a better Angkor].
“Mr. Rong Chhun [the president of the Cambodian Independent Teachers’ Association] stated that the Cambodian Independent Teachers’ Association has recently received phone cards from Khmer people living in France. On the cards, issued by Iradium or Meilleur Angkor [actually, “Meilleur Angkor” is a decorative inscription, not the name of a company] in France, the picture of the Khmer Angkor Wat is shown , and “Viêt-Nam” is written on the picture. The company did not write “Cambodia” on the picture of Angkor Wat.
“The president of the Cambodian Independent Teachers’ Association thinks that the case that the above-mentioned company uses the picture of Angkor Wat with the writing “Vietnam” would confuse the Khmer history, this means the company wants to eliminate the Khmer history from the world.
“Mr. Rong Chhun considers this to be a serous issue for the honor of Cambodia that a company insults and looks down on the soul of the Khmer ancestors who built Angkor Wat, which is priceless in the world, also for Khmers of future generations.
“The Cambodian Independent Teachers’ Association also asked the Prime Minister [unclear – maybe Deputy Prime Minister?], the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to tell the Royal Ambassador of Cambodia in France to check, and let the company explain the issue clearly.” Rasmei Kampuchea, Vol.15, #4368, 21.8.2007
