Funcinpec
Office of the Spokesperson
Clarification
The office of the spokesperson of Funcinpec has the honor to inform the public and the international community about a clarification concerning statements of Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh in an interview with the Voice of America on 5 February 2007:
- H.E. Nhek Bun Chhay, Funcinpec Secretary-General, has never written or drafted any letter to Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh as was claimed. The complaint against Samdech Krom Preah about a breach of trust related to the selling of the Funcinpec headquarters is not raised individually by Nhek Bun Chhay. It is a complaint by Funcinpec that instructed the Secretary-General to seek justice in the court.
- Funcinpec reformed its leadership structure in an extraordinary congress on 18 October 2006. All key decisions that are vital to the party require the approval of the majority of the Permanent Standing Committee. The Party Secretary-General did not and could not do anything without consultation with, and decision from the Permanent Standing Committee.
- Funcinpec is a royalist party with sovereignty, full independence, and absolute self-determination. It is not a party under the influence or protection of other parties. The claim of Samdech Krom Preah, who alleged that the Funcinpec Secretary-General did not dare to sign a letter to him as he had not yet received permission from Prime Minister Hun Sen or from Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, is a misrepresentation aimed to incite, and to split the alliance and cooperation with our partner party.
- Funcinpec reaffirms its position to seek justice in the court in this case of violating and misappropriating the party’s common property. We solemnly support Samdech Hun Sen’s announcement of 19 January 2007, stating his position of non-interference and non-intervention in this case. Funcinpec would like to appeal to the judicial institutions and the the Ministry of Justice to urge the courts to act quickly on this case to provide justice as soon as possible.
