Samdech Krom Preah and Funcinpec Accuse Each Other of Destroying the Monarchy
“Svay Rieng: Speaking to his loyalists in Svay Rieng on 15 January, Samdech Krom Preah announced that Funcinpec is now no longer a monarchist party; therefore, supporters should not be confused. As for Funcinpec, they accuse Samdech Krom Preah to be the person who destroyed the monarchy, causing Funcinpec to split, and selling the headquarters [by Prince Ranariddh]. Mr. Mut Chantha, the spokesperson of the Norodom Ranariddh Party, told Kampuchea Thmey that the Prince asked in Svay Rieng, while he met with more than 300 of his supporters from 80 communes in seven districts of Svay Rieng, to stop believing in the leadership of Funcinpec any longer, because the party is now no longer monarchist.
“The Prince said that the present Funcinpec is very different from the Funcinpec before. Previously, the party was led by the Prince who is clean and dignified, and completely supports the constitutional monarchy. He said, ‘When I was the leader of Funcinpec, there had never been threats, buying someone’s feelings, or corruption towards the party activists. But after Funcinpec had been taken by the group who made a coup, Funcinpec has become a average party, and a party which tramples on the monarchy and causes the monarchy nearly to disappear.’ Seeing this, the Prince decided to create a new party in order to support the monarchy again, at the present time when the country is named ‘Kingdom of Cambodia.’
“Mr. Mut Chantha said, following Samdech Krom Preah’s speech, that in order to avoid confusion concerning Funcinpec as a monarchist party, the Prince called on the supporters to stop supporting Funcinpec any longer, if the supporters are the real monarchists.
“He added that more than 300 participants expressed their supports and also some others, who had previously not understood what was going on, but now left Funcinpec and returned to join the Prince again. Concerning the lawsuits, Mr. Mut Chantha explained that nine witnesses involved in the sale of the Funcinpec headquarters will be summoned by the court for questioning, one by one, in the near future.

- Mr. Ly Chhuong, the buyer of the headquarters
- Mr. Nhek Bun Chhay [Funcinpec Secretary-General]
- Mr. Chhim Siek Leng
- Mr, Kong Vibol
- Mr. Mam Bunneang
- Mr. Keo Khemara
- Mr. Chea Chan Baribo
- Mr. Keo Puth Rasmey, the current president of Funcinpec
“Mr. Nov Sovatharo, the Funcinpec spokesperson told Kampuchea Thmey that Samdech Krom Preah’s accusation against Funcinpec – that it is no longer a monarchist party – is like to throw the husks against the direction of the wind.
“Mr. Nov Sovatharo stated, ‘If the Prince said so, it means that Samdech Krom Preah puts blame on Preah Mohavirak Khsatr [the Great Heroic King] Norodom Sihanouk. It can be seen that in the headquarters of Funcinpec, there is a huge statue of more than five meters high of Samdech Norodom Sihanouk. What does this mean?’’
“He continued ‘From 1980 to 1981, how many people accompanied Preah Mohavirak Khsatr? We would like to state that at present, Funcinpec protects the monarchy and the royal family. If Samdech Krom Preah makes these accusations, what about Princess Arunrasmey? [a daughter of the retired King Sihanouk, who is the wife of the new Funcinpec leader Keo Puth Rasmey] In conclusion, it indicates that the destroyer of Funcinpec is Samdech Krom Preah and the destroyer of the monarchy is also Samdech Krom Preah.’” Kampuchea Thmey, Vol.6, #1244, 16.1.2007
