The Mirror, Vol. 11, No. 533
“Le Monde of France, in the issue published on 8 November 2007, rated Mr. Hun Sen as the sixth strong leader in the world holding power for the longest time, and the most dictatorial, but some Asian diplomats said that Mr. Hun Sen is the champion in Asia who rules the country for the longest time and destroys the nation the most.
“Le Monde had the title ‘48 years is the longest time for leaders who hold power in the world.’
“The newspaper wrote that Mr. Fidel Castro, the president of Cuba, holds power for 48 years; Mr. Omar Bongo, the president of Gabon, holds power for 39 years; Mr. Ali Abdullah Saleh, the president of Yemen, holds power for 29 years; Mr. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the president of the Maldives, holds power for 28 years; Mr. Teodoro Obaing Nguema Mbasogo, the president of Equatorial Guinea, also holds power for 28 years; and Mr. Hun Sen, the prime minister of Cambodia, holds power for 22 years.
“Before holding power as prime minister for 22 years, Mr. Hun Sen was appointed in 1979 as minister of foreign affairs by Yuon [Vietnamese] invading soldiers, when Mr. Pen Sovann was general secretary of the party and Mr. Chan Sy was prime minister [1981 to 1984]. After that, Mr. Hun Sen had good achievements in leading the country, such as obeying Yuon guidelines, mobilizing citizens to devastate forests at the western border, called the Kor 5 campaign [early 1980s, creating a border security zone], and forcing Khmer youth to join the army to participate in civil war, mostly especially after Yuon had killed Mr. Chan Sy with an injection – when Hun Sen colluded with Yuon experts to arrest and send Mr. Pan Sovann to Yuon [Vietnam] to jail him in Hanoi. Then Yuon appointed him as head of the Council of Ministers (that is as prime minister) with Mr. Sok An as a senior teacher, to give him advice from 1985 to 1993.
“In May 1993, a general election was organized by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia; the citizens voted Mr. Hun Sen out of power. However, this man, who is addicted to power, ordered police leaders and military commanders to defect and lead armed forces to establish a secession zone at the Eastern side of the Mekong, in order to shed Khmer blood, and they declared that before dying and being buried, they wanted to try their force with the United Nations Armed Forces for a while.
“Concerning the shedding of Khmer blood, Samdech Euv [the Father King] Preah Norodom Sihanouk created the scenario of co-prime ministers – i.e. he asked Funcinpec to give half of the power to Mr. Hun Sen from the Cambodian People’s Party [CPP], in exchange for not shedding Khmer blood.
“During his 1993 to 1997 leadership, Mr. Hun Sen bought major Funcinpec officials’ feelings, especially of military chiefs and of police chiefs, and led forces to implement a bloodshed coup, in order to fire Samdech Krom Preah [Norodom Ranariddh] on 5-6 July 2007, and to appoint Ung Huot as a co-prime minister instead.
“In July 1998, Cambodia ran the election on its own, while the National Election Committee [NEC] was under Mr. Hun Sen’s control.
“The NEC is not independent; Yuons enter the country and vote for the CPP freely, vote fraud was conducted, and also various threats were made, so that the CPP won the election one time after another. Le Monde of France rates Mr. Hun Sen as the sixth strongman in the world for exercising dictatorship for the longest time, but some Asian diplomats said Mr. Hun Sen is a leading leader in Asian in term of national destruction, from a nation rich in resources to fall into ruin, such as in fisheries, forests, valuable minerals, and the sale of national property, especially affecting the achievements of Samdech Euv since the Sangkum Reastr Niyum period [1950ies to 1960ies].
“As Mr. Hun Sen is rated as the sixth in the world and the champion in Asia, it is the pride of him and his partisans who try to build many achievements [ironic], such as committing crimes and corruption, robbing the citizens’ lands, and human rights violations, and opening the border for Yuons to enter for colonization. Another good achievement of Mr. Hun Sen is that Transparency International classifies Cambodia as almost at the bottom of the list of 200 countries in the world, where the corrupt are at the bottom.
“It is very reasonable that Le Monde rates Mr. Hun Sen as the sixth one. But this rating was made at the same time while a new royal title, as Samdech Akak Senapadei Dekchor, was given to him recently.” Sralanh Khmer, Vol.3, #548, 10.11.2007
