Monday, 2.7.2007: Big Businesspeople from France Will Come to Invest in Cambodia

The Mirror, Vol. 11, No. 515

I should not have been so optimistic about the improvement of my health when I posted the previous material.

“Phnom Penh: Big businesspeople from France, heads of about 15 enterprises, now know clearly about the progress of Cambodia both in investment and in the reform process, after they met with senior officials of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and the Minister of Commerce.

“During the meeting with Samdech Hun Sen at the Council of Ministers on 29 June, Mr. Frédéric Sanchez [the President of the Vietnamese relations sub-committee of the Mouvement des Entreprises de France, the French enterprise movement], the head of the delegation, said that after Cambodia entered ASEAN and the World Trade Organization, the general reforms, including bank reform and public administration reform… and law sector reforms are important factors, which attracted the delegation’s strong attention.

“Mr. Eang Sophallet, assistant to Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, said that Mr. Sanchez said that the delegation is very happy after it got all information and knows that Cambodia has much potential.

“Mr. Sanchez said that this is the first visit, but it is at the right time. He promised, as head of the delegation, that he will make an investment [in Cambodia] before the second visit of French investors to Cambodia.

“Mr. Eang Sophallet said that Samdech Hun Sen expressed his welcome to all French investors by saying that he can affirm political stability, which is the environment for the investment atmosphere in Cambodia.

“During the meeting, Samdech Prime Minister thanked the French government and people for their participation in seeking peace for Cambodia by providing aid and a place for the [Paris Peace Conference of 1991] meetings.” Kampuchea Thmey, Vol.6, #1380, 1-2.7.2007
