Monday, 3.9.2007: Officials of the Ministry of Interior Raid Site of Forgery; Seven People Arrested

“Phnom Penh: A site of forgery at House 7A, Monivong Boulevard, Srah Chak Subdistrict, Daun Penh District, Phnom Penh, was raided by police of the Ministry of Interior led by Brigadier General Muong Khim at 3 o’clock on the afternoon of 1 September, while forgery was going on.

“The police said that the officials had searched for the site of the forgery of all kinds of documents for many months, and this led finally to the arrest of the accused who were committing forgery. As a result, three main forgerers were arrested, who are the house owners – Ang Nol, 50, who lives in Srah Chak Subdistrict, Daun Penh District, Phnom Penh and his two children – Ang Sinatt and Ang Sinat. In the meantime, four other suspects were also arrested by the officials: Ros Salam, Ly Savy, Sok Hay, and Vang Long.

“The equipment used for forging the documents, such as an EV700 printer [Gateway EV700 Computer Monitor?] , a PIC keyboard, a Samsung CPU, an HP Color LaserJet 4500 name card printer, three motorcycles, and a number of relevant other materials and documents were seized.

“The police stated that the site of the forgery, which was raided by the officials, had been operated to forge identification cards, degree certificates, bodyguards’ identity cards, authorization letters, and a large number of other forged documents. The site had been operated for many years, every day starting from morning to evening, and it had many customers. After the raid of the site of forgery the officials did not say whether also documents of top level leaders had been forged or not, and journalists were prohibited from entering to make reports.

Concerning the search of the above-mentioned site, the officials said that it was conducted based on the searching warrant No. 113, dated 1 September 2007, issued by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court Prosecutor Kry Sok Y. The seven accused and a large number of equipment were sent to the Ministry of Interior on the same day, and the site of forgery has been locked by the officials temporarily.” Koh Santepheap, Vol.40, #6134, 3.9.2007
